About the event
Cancer survivors and other body changing life events including domestic violence and trauma face numerous challenges, both physical and emotional, as they navigate life after a cancer diagnosis.
One particular challenge that many cancer survivors grapple with is body image. The impact of cancer and its treatment on the physical appearance of survivors can result in changes to their body, such as scarring, disfigurement and persistent hair loss. These physical changes can have a profound effect on survivors' self-esteem and overall body image. Research has shown that cancer survivors with head/neck scarring, disfigurement, and persistent hair loss are more likely to experience role limitations due to emotional problems, which suggests a negative impact on self-esteem and self-image.
